Meet Tyrion Miskell, OASISS Director!

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

It's #TeamTuesday and once again, we would like to introduce you to one of our directors from our amazing board of volunteers! Third up - Tyrion! We have asked her some questions so that you can get to know her better.

1. How long have you been on the Board?

"I joined the board in 2018."

2. Why did you join the Board?

"Controlling invasive species is important for preserving the unique ecosystems in the South Okanagan. Given the pervasive nature of invasive species, helping control them was a good fit with my work with the BC Grapegrowers Association (BCGA). I was really impressed by OASISS’s collaborative approach to the work and the continual engagement and education with landowners and the general public. I also love our lakes, as an avid outrigger canoeist and dragon boater, and an aspiring open water swimmer, I am very aware of negative changes in water life that invasive species create.

3. What is your favourite part of being a Director?

"I like the diversity of backgrounds that the board members bring and learning more about all the different parts of our community. I also like contributing to the growth of the organization."

4. When you aren’t doing Board work, what do you do for fun?

"I am very dedicated to fair trade and have been volunteering with Café Justicia for 20 years. We import green coffee from a Mayan coop and sell it to small roasters across Canada. All our profits are invested in community projects in the producers’ communities."

From all of us at OASISS to Tyrion, thank you for all the amazing work you do!
